NIAP’s international standard makes it possible to evaluate products once and sell them in several countries. NIAP approved Protection Profile is to explain the protection functionality of operating systems in terms of and to define functional and assurance requirements of the products. Common Criteria Recognition Arrangement allows accredited laboratories to test products using the identical criteria and testing methodology as NIAP. An operating system is software that manages computer hardware and software resources, and provides common services for application programs. The hardware it manages could also be physical or virtual.
